Technip Awarded an EPCC Contract for Upcoming PTA Plant in India

Technip Energies of France announced recently that it had been awarded a large Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) contract by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for its upcoming Paraxylene (PX) and Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) project on the East Coast of India. No contract value was stated, but Technip Energies considers a “large” contract to be between $353 million and $707 million dollars.

This EPCC contract covers this project’s need for the construction of a 1.2 MMtpy PTA plant and unspecified associated works.  This facility will also have a PX unit onsite to produce 800,000 tpy of PX intended as feedstock for the PTA production.  PTA is needed to make products such as polyester fibers, PET bottles and packaging uses for domestic market needs and for some export purposes.  IOCL is anticipating an early 2024 startup for this project.
