PBF Energy’s Renewable Diesel Project Wins Local Support in Louisiana

The developing renewable diesel unit at PBF Energy’s long-running refinery in Chalmette, Louisiana was recently bolstered by a tax exemption approval.

The St. Bernard Parish Council of Louisiana has approved this tax exemption that is designed to save PBF Energy approximately $91 million dollars over a 10-year span.  PBF is banking heavily on the success of this unit, as the company has been in debt for $1.4 billion due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The company is hopeful that this exemption will make this project more attractive for a potential incoming partner on this project, which will retrofit an idled hydrocracker at the complex to produce 20,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel from an animal fat feedstock.
