Texas Refinery Turns to Blue Hydrogen

The Javelina Refinery operated by Howard Midstream Energy Partners (HEP) in Corpus Christi is set to become the first carbon-neutral hydrogen production site in south Texas. In an announcement in August 2021, HEP said they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Port of Corpus Christi Authority to convert the existing facilities. A press release from the two parties stated “HEP’s Javelina facility is strategically positioned in the Port of Corpus Christi with pipeline connectivity to all six of the local refineries. Javelina controls approximately sixty million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of hydrogen production through a combination of hydrogen entrained in the refineries’
