Marathon begins permit approval process for Martinez renewable diesel conversion
10/16/2020
Marathon Petroleum recently announced that it has begun the permit application process for the conversion of its idle Martinez refinery into a renewable diesel facility. Earlier this year, the company ceased production at the long running Martinez refinery and at the Gallup refinery due to the reduction in demand.
If this renewable conversion project does reach sanctioning, Marathon plans to start this new production in 2022 and reach full capacity the next year with a capacity of 736 million gallons per year of this renewable diesel. Feedstock is expected to come from standard biobased supplies of animal fats, soybean oil and corn oil.
