Integrated Complex for Indonesia Picks Up New Contract with Shell

Pertamina and Rosneft joint venture, PT Pertamina Rosneft Pengolahan dan Petrokimia (PT PRPP), has reportedly let a contract to Royal Dutch Shell’s Shell Catalysts & Technologies to cover technology licensing and basic engineering services in late February.  This work is intended for PT PRPP’s upcoming integrated refinery and petrochemical complex to be placed in Tuban, Indonesia.

Under this agreement, Shell Catalysts & Technologies will be providing its proprietary process named OMEGA for the project’s monoethylene glycol production as well as distillate hydrotreating processes for sulfur and nitrogen removal and for aromatics hydrogenation.  No value was announced for this project at this time.

The refinery portion of this grassroots complex in Tuban will have a crude processing capacity of 300,000 barrel per day, and the petrochemical complex output will include production of 1 million tons annually of ethylene, 1.3 million tons annually of aromatic hydrocarbons, and 650,000 tons annually of polyethylene with an anticipated startup in 2025.
