Calcasieu Pass LNG Ahead of Schedule in Louisiana
Venture Global LNG CEO Michael Sabel stated in early March that the 7th and 8th of a planned 18 liquefaction trains for its upcoming Calcasieu Pass LNG export terminal in Louisiana are to be installed during the next few weeks. The 5th and 6th trains were installed just recently at the $4.5 billion site.
Reports have indicated that Venture Global has sent out tenders for LNG purchasers to receive commission cargoes or test cargoes as early as October, but that a December start from the first train is more likely. If that first train does start in late 2021, that would be ahead of the previous expectation from Venture Global of around Autumn 2022 commissioning. These trains are modular style and are smaller than traditional LNG trains, and are factory built and shipped to the destination, rather than the common method of building larger trains onsite. This is likely the reason for the accelerated schedule opportunities for this project.
