YPFB to set up a $250 million Renewable Diesel Unit in Bolivia

The Bolivian government recently announced that it plans to invest in a $250 million renewable diesel to be placed at the state-owned Yacimiento Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) Guillermo Elder Bell refinery in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

This proposed unit has been imagined to process approximately 450,000 tons per year of a feedstock comprised of vegetable oil and animal fat feedstocks for the production of 9,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel. Bolivian President Luis Arce called that this plant would be the first “large renewable diesel production project” in the country. YPFB is planning to launch tenders for an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning partner later this year, with an eye towards a late 2024 plant startup.
