BUA’s 200,000 bpd Nigerian Refinery Looks Towards 2024
The BUA Group of Nigeria and Axens of France recently announced a joint progress acknowledgement statements regarding the proposed BUA refinery to be built in Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom State before 2025. This latest endorsement comes about six months after both companies signed a contract for process technology and complex design.
The BUA group is planning for a three-to-four-year window for construction at this significant refinery, with an expectation of a startup in 2024 barring any unforeseen issues. This project is being planned as a multi-billion dollar integrated 200,000 barrel per day complex to produce Euro-V standard gasoline, diesel, and jet fuels alongside polypropylene production for markets at the domestic and regional levels. The success of this project would be a key component of the country’s efforts to reduce its refined petroleum imports and to eventually become a net exporter of such products.
