Neste to Add SAF Production to Rotterdam Refinery

Neste of Finland recently announced its plans to modify its already producing renewable fuels complex in Rotterdam to include production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel, or SAF.
The company is planning to spend $264 million USD to modify the complex for production of as much as 500,000 tons per year of SAF. Neste added that it expects this new capacity to be online by late 2023. In March 2020, Neste began planning for renewable production increases and this addition is the latest step in the company’s plan to reduce its carbon emissions. According to Neste, the company’s MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel brand is a drop-in fuel replacement that can reduce GHG emissions by as much as 80% when compared to fossil jet fuels.
