CNCEC of China Tapped to Build Refinery Complex in Iraq

The Government of Iraq has contracted China National Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNCEC), a state-owned construction and engineering company, with the building of a 300,000 barrel per day refinery and petrochemical plant at the port of Fao on the Persian Gulf.

This facility is expected to be primarily intended for exports and will completely financed by the government of China.  Cost estimates and a time frame for start of production were not discussed for this long in planning project, which was relaunched in 2020 to search for new investors after previous plans fell through.
