ADNOC and Borealis Partner for $6.2 Billion Borouge 4 Project

Borealis recently announced that it has signed a strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to build what would be the fourth Borouge facility at the Ruwais polyolefin complex.

The $6.2 billion USD Borouge 4 project will be centered around a 1.5 million tons per year ethane cracker, which will be the fourth cracker to be added to the site.  This project will also include two additional polyethylene plants with a capacity for 700,000 tons per year capacity apiece, with both utilizing Borealis’ Borstar technology.  A third polyethylene plant with a capacity for 100,000 tons per year is to be cross linked onsite as well, and finally, a hexene-1 unit will be part of the Borouge 4 plan for the purpose of producing co-monomers for specific polyethylene grades.  Borealis is planning for the Borouge 4 project to be operational by the end of 2025.
