Borouge 4 plant adds Maire Tecnimont and Technip Energies for EPC duties
The upcoming Borouge 4 project in Ruwais has signed separate engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts with Maire Tecnimont of Italy and Technip Energies of France in early December 2021. The $6.2 billion dollar Borouge 4 expansion phase at the Ruwais polyolefins complex in Ruwais, UAE is currently due to be completed by 2025.
Technip Energies was awarded what it calls a substantial EPC contract along with TARGET Engineering by Borouge’s Abu Dhabi Polymers co. Ltd, which is the joint venture of ADNOC and Borealis for the construction of a 1.5 million tons per year ethane cracker at the center of the Borouge 4 expansion project. This contract value is approximately $1.58 billion USD.
Also in early December, Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. subsidiary Tecnimont S.p.A. announced that it had signed three EPC contracts for the Borouge 4 phase. These are lump sum turnkey contracts that are assigned to specific packages at Borouge 4, specifically a polyolefin units package that includes two polyethylene units with a capacity of 700,000 tons per year each and a 1-hexene unit, a cross-linkable polyethylene unit package, and a utilities and offsites package for the required utilities and offsites units for Borouge 4. The overall value of these three contracts is approximately $3.56 billion USD.
