CQ-H2 project receives $15m funding for FEED Study

The Queensland Government has committed $15 million from the Queensland Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Jobs Fund to support Stanwell to progress the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) study for the CQ-H2 renewable hydrogen project*.

The funding announcement follows a trade mission to Japan last week, organised by Stanwell, in collaboration with Trade and Investment Queensland and the Department of State Development.

Stanwell and its partners – Iwatani Corporation, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kansai Electric Power Company, Marubeni Corporation, and APA Group – are progressing the development of the CQ-H2 project to realise a large-scale renewable hydrogen supply chain from Central Queensland to Japan.

The project is also exploring opportunities to supply renewable hydrogen to large industrial customers in Central Queensland to support emissions reduction for domestic industry by 2026.

The project includes a large-scale renewable hydrogen production facility at Aldoga near Gladstone and a liquefaction and shipping facility at the Port of Gladstone.

Once built, the project could eventually be the largest renewable hydrogen project in Queensland, scaling up to produce 800 tonnes per day of clean, green hydrogen by the early 2030s.

The project’s 12-month FEED study will further develop the technical, commercial and strategic elements of the project to allow for a Final Investment Decision to be made in late-2023.

* Commencement of the FEED study will be subject to Board approval and co-funding from government and consortium partners.
