BPCL Looks to Increase its Petrochemical Portfolio
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) recently announced new strategies around its current businesses in its latest Annual Report, including new unit planning around its currently operating refineries.
In this statement, BPCL announced that petrochemical expansion would be a priority in the next years. The company has stated that two new refinery integrated petrochemical projects would be coming in the way of a 1.2 MMtpy Ethylene Cracker unit at the Bina Refinery and a 400,000 MMtpy polypropylene unit at the Kochi Refinery. The Bina Ethylene Cracker has eventual downstream expectations of producing a variety of products such as High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE), Polypropylene (PP), Butene-1, Benzene, Toluene, Mixed Xylene, and more. The Kochi polypropylene unit replaces BPCL’s earlier plans for a polyols unit at the same refinery location. Both units are tentatively anticipated for startup around 2027.
