Equinor goes large
Equinor announced that it had been selected to provide New York State with offshore wind power in one of the largest renewable energy procurements in US history. Equinor, with incoming strategic partner BP, will provide 1,260 MW of renewable offshore wind power from Empire Wind II, and an additional 1,230MW from Beacon Wind I. Further to the existing offtake award of 816MW from Empire Wind I in 2019, this totals a commitment of 3.3GW. The execution of the procurement award is subject to the successful negotiation of a Purchase and Sale agreement. Equinor and BP announced in September 2020 that they had formed a strategic partnership for offshore wind in the US, with BP to be a 50% partner
