Engie breaks into Peru
Siemens Gamesa has been selected by Engie to supply turbines at Peru’s largest windfarm. The 50-turbine, 260MW Punta Lomitas windfarm in the southern region of Ica will be Engie’s first venture into Peru, a project almost twice the size of the current largest windfarm, Enel Green Power’s 42-turbine, 132MW Wayra I, also in Ica. Planned to be commissioned in 2023, the project will increase Peru’s installed capacity by approximately 70% based on International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) data. This will go some way to achieving the Government of Peru’s aim to reach 15% of clean energy generation by 2030, triple its current capacity. Elsewhere in South & Central (S&C) America, Engie
