Gazprom Pondering LNG Facility at Amur GPP

Gazprom of Russia recently stated that it was considering the construction of a new LNG facility at the site of the upcoming Amur Gas Processing Plant (GPP). This facility is under construction near the Power of Siberia pipeline by the border of China.

Regarding the rationale behind this proposal, Gazprom Deputy Chairman Vitaly Markelov said that the LNG possibly produced at this site was “Firstly, for gasification, secondly for the needs of the Vostochny cosmodrome, and thirdly for the development of gas motor fuel.” So, there is a rationale for this concept, but Mr. Markelov added that a feasibility study for this LNG project has yet to be prepared. No capacity details or timeframe for Amur LNG was announced at this time.  The $12.7 billion Amur GPP itself is currently expected to begin full production in 2024.
