KNPC’s Clean Fuels Project Begins Operations

Kuwait National Petroleum Co (KNPC) has successfully begun full operations at its ambitious Clean Fuels Project (CFP) in Kuwait.  This project was developed over a six-year period at a cost of nearly $16 billion dollars.

The CFP project was based around the refining capacity expansion and optimization of the existing Mina Al Ahmadi and the Mina Abdullah refineries, which will now be at 346,000 barrels per day and 454,000 barrels per day respectively for a combined capacity of 800,000 barrels per day. This project is intended to reduce carbon emissions through the production of ultra-low sulfur products that fit Euro 4 and 5 standards. KNPC considers this successful startup to be a significant achievement as Kuwait works towards a goal of reaching 1.6 million barrels per day in 2025, with this project being part of that plan.
