Air Liquide and Redexis join forces to deploy up to 100 hydrogen refueling stations in Spain by 2030

Press Release - Air Liquide

Air Liquide and Redexis have signed a collaboration agreement to develop a project on the hydrogen mobility value chain in Spain, with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint of the transport sector. The two companies have agreed to work on the analysis of the deployment of a network of up to 100 hydrogen refueling stations in Spain before 2030, mostly dedicated to heavy mobility.

The network of hydrogen refueling stations would be strategically located in the main logistics centers, such as Madrid and Barcelona, as well as in the main transport corridors that link the country with Europe, the Mediterranean and Atlantic corridors.

Within the framework of the energy transition, the objective of this project is to accelerate the development of hydrogen vehicles in Spain, providing a sustainable solution to the transport sector and thus contributing to the reduction of its carbon footprint.

This alliance will benefit from the experience of more than 50 years of Air Liquide in the entire hydrogen value chain (production, storage, distribution and hydrogeneration technology) and from the capabilities of Redexis in the development of gas infrastructures. for vehicles.

This project was presented to the Expressions of Interest ( MDI ) of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge in 2020, under the name DESIRE H2 and is participating in the IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) mechanism . It has also been selected by the ECH2A (European Clean Hydrogen Alliance) to be part of the project portfolio of the European platform. DESIRE H2 is
aligned with the objectives of the Hydrogen Roadmap presented by the Spanish Government. This alliance between Air Liquide and Redexis provides added value to financing requests, which are essential for the execution of the project.

Bénédicte Levinson , Managing Director of Air Liquide in Spain and Portugal , stated: "As a pioneer in hydrogen, Air Liquide is proud to partner with Redexis to contribute to the deployment of an ecosystem dedicated to heavy mobility with hydrogen in Spain. Hydrogen is "a key element of the energy transition, particularly for industrial and mobility applications. In line with its Climate Goals, Air Liquide is working for the development of a low-carbon society."

In the words of Fernando Bergasa , President of Redexis: “We are very pleased to present DESIRE H2 today, a project promoted together with Air Liquide that can potentially accelerate the development of hydrogen in Spain, reducing its costs, promoting the industrial development of the automotive sector and providing a zero emissions solution to the transport sector and logistics distribution ”.
