PT Pertamina’s Balikpapan RDMP Continues Strong Progress

PT Pertamina of Indonesia recently updated the status of its upcoming Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) in Balikpapan, Indonesia as being on track to begin operations in 2024.

The Balikpapan RDMP is a national strategic project for Pertamina as it is being built to increase the standing Balikpapan refinery capacity from 260,000 barrels per day to 360,000 barrels per day, with an investment value of as much as $7.2 billion USD. PT Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati was optimistic about the progress thus far for the RDMP, stating on January 10th that “Until the end of December 2021, Pertamina's Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) progress reached 47%, an achievement which is higher than our forecast target. Seeing the progress of the on-track refinery, Pertamina is optimistic that the Balikpapan RDMP project can immediately go on stream according to the target in 2024”.  Pertamina is counting on this project to play a considerable role in Indonesia’s energy security.
