QatarEnergy and CP Chem Begin Construction of their $8.5 Billion Petrochemical Facility in Texas
In March 2023, QatarEnergy and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company (CP Chem) held the official groundbreaking ceremony of the upcoming Golden Triangle Polymers Plant in Orange County, Texas. This significant project has a cost figure of $8.5 billion dollars and is expected onstream in 2026.
The Golden Triangle plant is located approximately 180 kilometers east of Houston and will be comprised of a 2.08 million tons per year ethylene cracker and twin high density polyethylene units with a combined capacity of 2 million tons per year, which are all expected to be the largest of their kind in the world. Once operational, the plant will produce Marlex® polyethylene. This plant is owned by Golden Triangle Polymers Company LLC, a joint venture in which QatarEnergy holds a 49% equity interest with 51% held by CPChem.
