His Highness the Amir Lays the Foundation Stone for the Ras Laffan Petrochemical Complex
His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, laid the foundation stone for the Ras Laffan Petrochemical Complex, one of the largest in the world, which will raise Qatar’s overall petrochemical production capacity to about 14 million tons per annum by the end of 2026.
Baker Hughes announces major LNG order from QatarEnergy for the North Field South (NFS) project
HOUSTON and LONDON, April 03, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Baker Hughes (NASDAQ: BKR), an energy technology company, announced Monday an order to be booked in the first quarter of 2023 with longtime partner QatarEnergy to supply two main refrigerant compressors (MRCs) for the North Field South (NFS) project, which will be executed by Qatargas. The MRCs are part of two LNG “mega trains” representing 16 million tons per annum (MTPA) of additional capacity that is estimated to further boost Qatar’s LNG production capacity to 126 MTPA, helping to propel Qatar as a leader in global LNG production by 2027.
Emerson Selected to Automate Largest Ethane Cracker in Middle East
Global software and engineering leader Emerson (NYSE: EMR) will provide automation technologies, software and analytics for the Ras Laffan Petrochemical Complex in Qatar as part of a consortium with Viasat Energy Services, a division of global communications company Viasat (NASDAQ: VSAT). The $6 billion integrated polymers project, a joint venture between QatarEnergy and Chevron Phillips Chemical, is currently under construction and scheduled to go online in late 2026.

In early January 2023, QatarEnergy announced that it had made a Final Investment Decision alongside Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) to build the Ras Laffan Petrochemicals Complex in Qatar for $6 billion dollars. QatarEnergy stated that this is the largest petrochemical investment in Qatar that they have ever made.
