Australia to Keep Two Refineries Open

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced this week that the Australian government will indeed support the two remaining refineries still open in the country, and that these two refineries have accepted this plan moving forward.

The Australian government has locked in production at the 120,000 barrel per day Viva Energy owned Geelong refinery and the 109,000 barrel per day Ampol owned Lytton refinery through nearly $2 billion dollars in spending to protect the country’s fuel security through at least 2027, with an option for an additional three years.  This plan also includes up to $234 million dollars for upgrades to help increase higher quality fuel production such as ultra-low sulfur gasoline.
