Driftwood LNG Export Project in Louisiana to Start Construction This Year

According to recent comments from Tellurian Executive Chairman Charif Souki, the Driftwood LNG export terminal under development in Louisiana is now expected to begin construction this summer.

In a podcast from Tellurian in early June, Mr. Souki stated he was “highly confident” that construction would begin this summer, potentially in August.  This announcement would likely keep the $16.8 billion project on pace for a startup in the 2026-2027 timeframe with an eventual export capacity of 27.6 MMtpy.

This anticipated start of construction follows Tellurian’s announcement in early June of a finalization of a 3 MMtpy FOB sales and purchase agreement with Vitol for a 10 year period at the Driftwood LNG site, pushing the project forward.
