Petronas Moving Forward with its RNEST Train One Expansion to Complete Early Next Year
1/18/2024
A representative of Petronas of Brazil stated on January 17 that the company is intending to complete its expansion plans for Train One at its long-lived Abreu e Lima Refinery in the first quarter of 2025. This plan had begun years ago but was delayed due to a corruption scandal that began in 2014.
Petrobras has been planning two trains of expansion at this refinery for some time with the intent to increase fuel production and lower import dependency. Marcio Maia, General Manager of the RNEST facility, stated that “the first train will boost RNEST's capacity by 15,000 barrels per day, to 115,000 bpd. When the second train is concluded, RNEST's refining capacity will reach 260,000 bpd.” This second train is expected to finish in 2028.
