Ethanol bets big on CCS, but its role in decarbonisation remains fuzzy

by Seth Haskell, CCS Research   Ethanol punches above its weight in US carbon capture and storage (CCS) installations, accounting for 70pc of the announced capture sites expected to come online by the end of 2028 despite making up just 2pc of the US primary energy mix. In comparison, natural gas an..

NEW: Carbon Capture Storage Database is now available!

Addressing the challenges of climate change requires innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology has emerged as a promising approach to mitigate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from energy-intensive industries and power generation. To support the advancement and deployment of CCS, the new Global Energy Infrastructure (GEI) Carbon Capture Storage database provides a comprehensive collection of information and data related to CCS projects worldwide.

Summit Carbon Solutions announces Absolute Energy as partner Ethanol plant in Iowa

Summit Carbon Solutions is pleased to announce a new partnership with Absolute Energy, an ethanol plant located in Saint Ansgar, Iowa. Absolute Energy, which commenced operations in 2008 and produces approximately 130 million gallons per year of ethanol, joins an expanding network of leading ethanol plants as partners in the transformative carbon capture and storage project led by Summit Carbon Solutions.

Nucor Enters Into Carbon Capture & Storage Agreement with ExxonMobil

Nucor Corporation announced 1 June 2023, that it has signed an agreement with ExxonMobil to capture, transport, and store carbon from the company's direct reduced iron (DRI) plant in Convent, Louisiana. CNOOC Limited Announces China's First Offshore CCS Demonstration Project Commissioned

On June 1, CNOOC Limited announced the official commissioning of China's first offshore CCS demonstration project. The CCS project is an auxiliary part of the Enping 15-1 oilfields development. Enping 15-1 oilfield is located in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, about 190 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong, with an average water depth of approximately 80 meters and has a high carbon dioxide content.

RWE announces development proposals for three new carbon capture projects across the UK

RWE, the UK’s leading electricity generator, has today announced plans to progress three new carbon capture projects as it leads the way towards helping decarbonise UK power. The company is testing the feasibility of options to retrofit carbon capture technology at its existing combined cycle gas power stations at Pembroke and Staythorpe. It is also developing proposals for a new carbon-capture, gas-fired power station at Stallingborough, close to the Humber Estuary. The proposed development would be up to 800 megawatts enough to power one million homes.
