Shell to Temporarily Pause On-site Construction of European Biofuels Facility

Shell Nederland Raffinaderij B.V., a subsidiary of Shell plc, is to temporarily pause on-site construction work at its 820,000 tonnes a year biofuels facility at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam in the Netherlands to address project delivery and ensure future competitiveness given current market conditions.

To establish this green hydrogen chain from Spain to the Netherlands, the Spanish energy company signed letters of intent with Dutch Gasunie’s subsidiary Hynetwork Services and ACE Terminal. In doing so, Iberdrola will export green ammonia to the Netherlands through the planned ACE import terminal at the Port of Rotterdam and transport it as green hydrogen via the Dutch national hydrogen network of Hynetwork Services to European customers.

Gasunie continues to work on options to increase lng imports into the Netherlands. Options to further expand existing capacity at Eemshaven and at Gate terminal are being further explored. The recently announced feasibility study has shown that a new floating lng terminal in the port of Terneuzen is not feasible in the short term.

Gasunie to develop international hydrogen network in German North Sea

Gasunie intends to realise a hydrogen network in the German part of the North Sea. This German hydrogen network plays an important role in the large-scale import of hydrogen from Norway and the increasing supply of green hydrogen from future wind farms in the North Sea. The German offshore network will be connected to the Dutch offshore network, providing cross border options to import and eventually even export hydrogen through the Dutch offshore network. To develop the offshore hydrogen network, the company has now applied to the European Commission for Project of Common Interest (PCI) status.

Nel ASA: Receives purchase order for 40 MW electrolyser equipment from HyCC

Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a subsidiary of Nel ASA (Nel, OSE:NEL), has signed a contract for 40 MW of alkaline electrolyser equipment for about EUR 12 million with HyCC for its H2eron project in Delfzijl, Netherlands. Kraftanlagen Energies & Services has been contracted for the FEED study related to the project.
