Gasunie, HES International and Vopak join forces to develop an import terminal for a hydrogen carrier in the port of Rotterdam
Gasunie, HES International (HES) and Vopak will be working together to develop an import terminal for green ammonia as a hydrogen carrier. The companies have signed a cooperation agreement to that effect. The cooperation is a response to growing global demand for the import and storage of green energy. This quarter, work will be started on the basic design of the import terminal. The terminal, that will operate on the Maasvlakte under the name ACE Terminal, will be operational from 2026.
SGN to deliver £29.9m national strategic hydrogen transmission and storage project
The funding from the energy regulator Ofgem and gas distribution companies will help determine whether Great Britain’s transmission networks can be repurposed for hydrogen gas. The project will be based in Grangemouth, Scotland, and delivered in partnership with Global Chemical Company, INEOS, who have extensive manufacturing and infrastructure facilities in the region.

For regional aircraft, hydrogen-electric propulsion systems with hydrogen fuel cell technology offer a promising option. This is now receiving a strong boost from the '328H2-FC' project. Led by the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) in cooperation with H2FLY, Deutsche Aircraft, Diehl Aviation and six other partners, the project is the first to develop a fuel cell system with a power output of one and a half megawatts for use in flight.
Wood launches next generation of hydrogen production technology
Wood has unveiled its new steam methane reforming (SMR) technology, which can achieve 95% CO2 emissions reduction, compared to a traditional hydrogen production plant. The technology aims to counter inefficiencies in energy, heat production and industrial processes, which together account for more than half of all global greenhouse gas emissions. Wood believes the pathway to reduce these emissions and create a more sustainable future, whilst also meeting increasing demand for energy, lies in reducing the carbon intensity of hydrogen production.

The Western Australian town of Northam could soon be home to Australia’s first large-scale green hydrogen plant under plans developed by Infinite Blue Energy. The company has acquired the existing 11 megawatt Northam Solar Farm from current owners Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) and Bookitja Pty Ltd as trustee of the Ngangk Trust, and plans to use it to power a 10MW hydrogen electrolyzer and battery storage to produce up to 4 tonnes per day of green hydrogen.

Following the latest developments in relation to the construction of an energy terminal in Brunsbüttel, German LNG Terminal GmbH and Shell have now signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the import of LNG through the terminal. In it, they agree that Shell will make a long-term booking of a substantial part of the Brunsbüttel terminal’s capacity for the import of LNG. Both parties are currently working towards a binding agreement on the scope and duration of their partnership, and hope to complete it as soon as possible.

Venture Global Announces New Sales Agreements for Plaquemines and CP2 LNG, Releases Update on Pre-FID Milestones
Today, Venture Global LNG announced that it has executed two new long-term 20-year Sales and Purchase Agreements (SPAs) with New Fortress Energy Inc., including 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) from Plaquemines LNG and 1 MTPA from CP2 LNG. This is the first SPA for the CP2 LNG facility, which the company expects to commence construction on in 2023. With these agreements, Venture Global has now executed over 80% of long-term 20-year contracts signed by US LNG companies since 2017.
