SNAM and SAGAT team up for the first hydrogen-ready fuel cell in Italy in Torino airport

SAGAT SpA, the Torino Airport Management Company, and the Snam Group, through its subsidiary Renovit, which specialises in energy efficiency solutions, have signed a term sheet for the construction of a "hydrogen-ready" fuel cell system in cogeneration mode with a capacity of 1.2 MW at Torino Airport.

Commission approves EUR 900 million German scheme to support investments in production of renewable hydrogen

The European Commission has approved, under EU State aid rules, a EUR 900 million German scheme to support investments in the production of renewable hydrogen in non-EU countries, which will be then imported and sold in the EU. The scheme, called ‘H2Global', aims at meeting the EU demand for renewable hydrogen that is expected to significantly increase in the coming years, by supporting the development of the unexploited renewable resource potential outside the EU.

P2X Solutions receives public funding to build Finland’s first green hydrogen production plant – A great leap towards an emission-free welfare society.

P2X Solutions, a Finnish pioneer in green hydrogen and power-to-x technology, has received approximately EUR 26 million grant for new energy technology and large-scale demonstration projects from the Ministry of Employment and the Economy to build Finland’s first industrial scale green hydrogen production plant and methanation unit in Harjavalta. In addition, the Climate Fund has granted the company a capital loan of EUR 10 million. The total investment planned by P2X Solutions is approximately EUR 70 million.

The world’s biggest offshore wind farm, Hornsea 2, generates first power

When fully operational, Hornsea 2’s 165 8 MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbines will be capable of generating 1.32 GW of clean electricity – taking the title of ‘world’s largest operating offshore wind farm’ from its sibling project Hornsea 1. Together, the two projects will be capable of providing enough power for well over 2.3 million homes.

World’s first offshore hydrogen storage concept developed by Tractebel and partners

Tractebel and partner companies have developed the world's first offshore infrastructure and processing facilities concept for the storage of hydrogen in offshore caverns. The design study, unveiled by Tractebel Overdick GmbH’s offshore experts, outlines an innovative solution for large-scale hydrogen storage on the high seas: a scalable offshore platform for the compression and storage of up to 1.2 million m³ of hydrogen. Underground salt caverns will be used as storage and buffer for the hydrogen produced offshore, before the gas is transported via the pipeline network to the onshore grid and finally to consumers and customers.

ABB and HydrogenPro to optimize green hydrogen production for a low-carbon future

ABB has signed an order with HydrogenPro, a hydrogen plant company, to provide electrical equipment for the world’s largest single stack high-pressure alkaline electrolyser - a system that generates hydrogen by using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. Once deployed, at a specially built test facility in Herøya, Norway in 2022, the system will be capable of producing 1,100 normal cubic metres of green hydrogen per hour (Nm3/h).

Amur Gas Chemical Complex Secures $9.1 billion to Push Project Forward

Sibur of Russia announced recently that it has secured $9.1 billion USD in loans for the upcoming Amur Gas Chemical Complex under development in Russia. Sibur is co-owner of the plant with Sinopec of China. International banks will provide $2.6 billion of the $9.1 billion figure, while Russian and Chinese banks will issue the remaining $6.5 billion.

Iberdrola and H2 Green Steel sign 2.3 billion euros green hydrogen deal

Iberdrola takes another step towards decarbonisation. Iberdrola and H2 Green Steel have signed an agreement to build a green hydrogen plant with an installed capacity of 1,000 MW and an estimated investment of 2.3 billion euros. The new plant will power with clean fuel a direct steel reduction furnace with a capacity to produce around 2 million tonnes per year of pure green steel, with a 95% reduction in CO2 emissions.

bp plans major green hydrogen project in Teesside

bp today confirmed it is planning a new large-scale green hydrogen production facility in the North East of England that could deliver up to 500Mwe (megawatt electrical input) of hydrogen production ‎by 2030. To be developed in multiple stages, HyGreen Teesside is expected to match production to demand ‎and build on experience to drive down costs. bp is aiming to start production by 2025, with an initial ‎phase of some 60MWe of installed hydrogen production capacity. A final investment decision on the ‎project is expected in 2023.‎

Investment secured for Whitelee Green hydrogen facility

The Green Hydrogen for Scotland partnership has secured £9.4m of funding through the Storage at Scale competition run by The Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Neste to receive funding from the EU Innovation Fund to develop its Porvoo refinery through green hydrogen production and carbon capture & storage

The EU Innovation Fund has given a positive grant decision of EUR 88 million funding to Neste’s green hydrogen and CO2 capture & storage project, which aims to quickly and efficiently reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the Porvoo refinery in Finland. The project introduces carbon capture and storage (CCS) and electrolysis solutions that allow decarbonisation of production at the refinery. The project is currently in the feasibility phase.

E-Steiermark to launch Austria's first "green" hydrogen production facility to supply the industrial sector in 2022

Energie Steiermark is constructing Austria's first off-site "green" hydrogen production facility in Gabersdorf, southern Styria. The company is investing around 10 million euros in the construction of an innovative generation plant covering an area of 10,000 square metres. The plant will combine a large-scale photovoltaic system comprising 6,000 square metres of solar collectors with resources from an existing biogas plant.
