BASF Breaks Ground on MDI Capacity Expansion Project at Geismar Site

BASF has broken ground on the third and final phase of the methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) expansion project at its Verbund site in Geismar, Louisiana, announced in July 2022. The company will increase production capacity to approximately 600,000 metric tons per year by the middle of the decade to support the ongoing growth of its North American MDI customers.

Nel signs agreement with HH2E for potential 120 MW capacity in Germany

Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a subsidiary of Nel ASA, has agreed with HH2E for a FEED (Front End Engineering and Design) study and a Letter of Intent for two 60 MW electrolyser plants in Germany. The FEED will commence after a firm purchase order is made, and the parties intend to conclude a contract for electrolyser equipment within the first half of 2023.

Air Products and AES Announce Plans to Invest Approximately $4 Billion to Build First Mega-scale Green Hydrogen Production Facility in Texas

Air Products and The AES Corporation announced plans to invest approximately $4 billion to build, own and operate a green hydrogen production facility in Wilbarger County, Texas. This mega-scale renewable power to hydrogen project includes approximately 1.4 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar power generation, along with electrolyzer capacity capable of producing over 200 metric tons per day (MT/D) of green hydrogen, making it the largest green hydrogen facility in the United States.

Equinor and RWE have agreed to work together to develop large-scale value chains for low carbon hydrogen.

The partners aim to replace coal fired power plants with hydrogen-ready gas fired power plants in Germany, and to build production of low carbon and renewable hydrogen in Norway that will be exported through pipeline to Germany.

H2Carrier AS and Anori A/S to co-operate in developing a large PtX project in Greenland

H2Carrier AS and the Greenland based company Anori A/S have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the purpose of developing the first commercial wind farm in Greenland with subsequent production and export of green ammonia. The wind farm is projected to comprise 1.5GW renewable energy which will supply power to H2Carrier’s floating production vessel for hydrogen and green ammonia, the so-called P2XFloater™. Green ammonia will be stored in tanks onboard the vessel, then exported to smaller shipping vessels and carried to the international market for ammonia. This large project will enable Greenland to play a key role within global decarbonisation.

Woodside Energy awards liquefaction contract for H2OK

Woodside Energy has awarded a major contract to Air Liquide Engineering and Construction (Air Liquide) for the liquefaction equipment at its proposed H2OK hydrogen project in Ardmore, Oklahoma. In accordance with the contract, Air Liquide will provide the engineering and fabrication of two 30 tonne per day liquefaction units which will liquefy hydrogen produced through electrolysis in preparation for storage, loading and transportation to customers.

Iberdrola Australia and hydrogen developer ABEL Energy announced that they will be working together to deliver a green hydrogen and green methanol production facility at Bell Bay, in northern Tasmania, backed by new renewable energy generation within the state. The total estimated capital requirement for the methanol and renewable energy project is in the order of A$1.7 billion.

280-Mile Hydrogen Pipeline Connecting Spain to France to Cost $2.6 Billion

An underwater pipeline set to carry green hydrogen between Spain and France will cost about 2.5 billion euros ($2.6 billion), Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Friday, adding he hoped the European Union would partly fund the project. The pipeline between Barcelona and Marseille will have a capacity of 2 million tonnes a year and be ready by the end of the decade, Sanchez said at a summit of Mediterranean European Union leaders in the southeastern Spanish port city of Alicante.
